Philippines Prepares Its First NEREDA® Sewage Treatment Plant
Manila Water announced in February 2026 that its UP Sewerage System Network Project will adopt the country’s first NEREDA® aerobic granular sludge sewage treatment plant. The approximately ₱220-million facility is designed for 5 MLD.
Aerobic granular sludge represents another option in biological treatment design, allowing dense microbial granules to perform multiple treatment functions within a relatively compact process.
The development is significant because it expands the range of treatment technologies being considered for Philippine wastewater projects beyond conventional activated sludge, MBBR, MBR, SBR and AAO.
