Las Piñas WRF Shows How A2O Is Being Applied to Large-Scale Wastewater Design

Maynilad’s Las Piñas Water Reclamation Facility was designed for up to 88 million liters per day, serving around 360,000 residents across 20 barangays. The facility uses an Anaerobic-Anoxic-Oxic (A2O) biological treatment process and was designed around DENR effluent requirements.

The project highlights an important direction in modern STP engineering: designers increasingly need to consider not just BOD and suspended-solids removal, but also nitrogen, nutrient management, internal recycle, aeration control and process stability.

For smaller Philippine projects, the same engineering principles can be adapted to modular AAO/A2O configurations.
